This was an improvement scheme which greatly improved the general appearance of the area but also intended to improve safety for all road users in particular pedestrians and cyclists. This was achieved by greatly reducing the size of the roundabout which in turn reduced vehicle approach speeds, allowing for segregated cycle tracks and reducing pedestrian crossing distances.

The scheme also included the following:

  • Improved pedestrian crossing facilities
  • Regularisation of parking by the provision of designated parking bays
  • Provision and improvement of cycling facilities including the provision of segregated cycle tracks at the roundabout
  • Upgrading of footpaths with granite kerbs and concrete flags
  • Provision of new public lighting
  • Replacement of a section of watermain and boundary boxes
  • Provision of additional trees
  • Provision of new street furniture
